Certification K-12 Library Media Specialist
Salary  $48,000 
Reports To Assigned Supervisor

Key Responsibilities

Resource Management:
  • Curate and maintain an organized and up-to-date collection of books, digital media, and instructional resources.
  • Ensure accessibility of library resources for students and staff.

Instructional Support:
 
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate library and technology resources into classroom instruction.
  • Provide direct instruction to students in research skills, digital literacy, and media ethics.

Literacy Promotion:
 
  • Develop and implement reading programs and initiatives to foster a love for reading among students.
  • Organize book fairs, author visits, and other literacy-related events.

Technology Integration:
 
  • Support staff and students in the use of instructional technology and digital tools.
  • Promote responsible digital citizenship and online research skills.

Supervision & Collaboration:
 
  • Supervise students using the library and its resources.
  • Train and oversee library aides, volunteers, and student workers.

Record Keeping & Reporting:
 
  • Maintain accurate records of library inventory, circulation, and budget expenditures.
  • Report on library usage and instructional support efforts.
 

Minimum Qualifications
 
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a job-related area.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a library or educational setting preferred.
  • Skills: Strong organizational, research, and technology skills.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with library management systems, educational technology, and literacy development strategies.
  • Abilities: Ability to collaborate with teachers, adapt to changing technology, and engage students in active learning.
 

Physical Demands:
 
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of materials.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and using fine finger dexterity.
  • Work is performed in a school library environment with minimal temperature variations.
