The School District of Clayton is seeking a full-time student-centered Reading Specialist to join our Wydown Middle School staff for the 2025-2026 school year.
POSITION SUMMARY: Works with individual students and small groups of students to provide reading support. Provides support to classroom teachers.

FLSA Status: Exempt, Professional Exemption-Teacher.

The School District of Clayton is seeking a full-time student-centered Reading Specialist to join our Wydown Middle School staff for the 2025-2026 school year.
POSITION SUMMARY: Works with individual students and small groups of students to provide reading support. Provides support to classroom teachers.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Collaborates with classroom teachers and other specialists to plan and develop courses of study according to curriculum guidelines which meet the individual student’s learning needs and objectives.
- Teaches Literacy classes if necessary for the building
- Records progress monitoring data in EduClimber
- Develops and presents specific lesson plans, using a variety of teaching strategies.
- Evaluates student learning needs and communicates with parents or guardians about the student’s learning needs.
- Maintains order in the classroom, and, in conjunction with administrative staff, administers discipline when necessary to achieve proper behavior.
- Keeps records of academic performance, attendance, and social acclimation. Reports on all aspects of student development for school records and parents; conducts parent-teacher conferences on both a regularly scheduled and as-needed basis.
- Consults with other professionals to use diagnostic evaluation data of students; develops instruction plans in compliance with IEPs; differentiates instruction according to individual needs.
- Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
- Assumes responsibility for the effective functioning of the school to include necessary non-instructional assignments and student management throughout the entire building.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested by the building principal.
- Requires a minimum of practice teaching experience, Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree in Reading, and eligibility for Missouri teacher certification.

- Requires Missouri teacher certification and Special Reading certification
