School Counselor
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Building Principal, to help provide services and direction to students that will not only encourage them to be successful in their educational program but will also help them develop into individuals with a high degree of self esteem and the ability to interact positively with peers. The counselors will implement the Missouri Comprehensive School Counseling Program, which includes school counseling curriculum, individual student planning, responsive services and system support. 

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Implement the School Counseling Curriculum through the use of effective instructional skills and the careful planning of structured group sessions.
  • Implement the Individual Student Planning by guiding individuals and groups of students and their parents/guardians through the develoment of Individual Academic and Career Plans.
  • Implement the Responsive Services through the effective use of individual and small group counseling, consultation, and referral skills. 
  • Implement System Supports through effective school counseling program management and support for other educational programs. 
  • Use professional communication and interaction with the school community.
  • Supply pertinent data to the cumulative records of students including written reports and summaries following diagnostic proceedings. 
  • Provide services requested by students, teachers, parents or the public which will help to improve the educational program of the school. 
  • Assist the administrator in monitoring the academic progress of all students in the building.

Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment

Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

A school counselor at LCC-1 shall be skilled, professional and culturally competent individual who empowers studets, partners with parents, collaborates with faculty and staff and coordinates with outside providers to promote a safe, inclusive and positive school culture.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Must have the ability to: speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously; Move around the classroom and building; Read handwritten or printed material. 

Qualifications/Education/Experience
The Guidance Counselor shall have completed a Masters Degree from an accredited college or university, have at least two years of teaching experience, meet state certification requirements as a counselor for the appropriate grade levels, and meet any other requirements as may be deemed necessary for this position by the State or Local Board of Education.
