Southern Boone Middle School is searching for a Middle School Counselor to join our team. This role is vital in guiding students through the unique challenges of early adolescence—academically, socially, and emotionally. The ideal candidate will partner with staff, families, and the wider school community to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where every student can thrive.

Southern Boone Middle School is searching for a Middle School Counselor to join our team. This role is vital in guiding students through the unique challenges of early adolescence—academically, socially, and emotionally. The ideal candidate will partner with staff, families, and the wider school community to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where every student can thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Support: Provide individual and group counseling for students navigating academic pressures, peer relationships, and emotional concerns.
- Crisis Intervention: Respond promptly to student crises with immediate support, collaborating with teachers, families, and external agencies as needed.
- Preventative Programming: Develop and deliver engaging programs on topics like bullying prevention, emotional regulation, digital citizenship, and conflict resolution.
- Collaboration: Partner with teachers, staff, and families to identify student needs and implement effective strategies for academic and behavioral success.
- Advocacy: Champion student well-being, helping ensure access to resources and creating a safe, respectful school culture.
- Developmental Guidance: Facilitate age-appropriate guidance lessons that build students' self-awareness, emotional intelligence, peer relationships, and self-esteem.
- Referral Services: Connect students and families to community mental health providers and other support resources when needed.
- Assessment Coordination: Support the administration of academic, behavioral, and social-emotional assessments; analyze data to inform interventions.
- PBIS Implementation: Actively support Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) by promoting a positive school climate and reinforcing student expectations.
- Professional Collaboration: Contribute meaningfully to Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) by sharing best practices and collaborating on student support initiatives.
- Ongoing Development: Engage in relevant professional development to remain current with evidence-based counseling practices and school-wide strategies.
- Master’s degree in School Counseling
- Valid state certification or licensure as a School Counselor
- Experience working with middle school students preferred
- Familiarity with PBIS frameworks and data-informed counseling practices
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and the holistic development of all students
